First time staying in a hostel and its been great. Everything is clean, perfect one room, share barhroom, living room and dinning area. Signage encouraging eating as a group to meet new people. I'd stay again for sure. Two thumbs up.

I did some traveling in the first decade of this century and hit many hostels on the west coast and in Mexico. Amazing varieties. Now aged and unable to travel, and having some work done on my house, I needed to stay at an affordable place in town. Who wants to pay through the nose for all these high-priced hotels? Not I. I booked a room at MIH and was subsequently very pleasantly rewarded----I stayed 3 nights in a spacious, comfortable room with a great bed. The place was very well run by an on-site manager (Larry) who was ON IT for everyone there and for those who were coming and going. The ancient house is well cared-for and interesting in many respects, and is well-situated. If I ever have to get out of my house again or have too many guests coming, I'll know what to do. Owner, if you're reading this: keep Larry happy: he's a gem.

Highly recommended & a fabulous place. Delughtful people. Sincere conversation. Unbeatable prices! A bit of advice: Be sure to arrive at a respectable hour, call before-hand if you can as there isn't always someone there to unlock the always-locked(security)front door. Parking is minimal. Oh, don't worry about that about the scary movies, Hostels are a great way to travel & can be found all around the world. This one is a little outdated and needs a bit of care, but the coffee was good, the bed was comfortable and there were cute guys. What more could I have asked for? Just do it!

So happy we found this place! The house was built in 1910. We love old houses so we thought we would give it a try. The room we got has a private bathroom which was a must for us. The room was so beautiful and definitely beats the motel 8. Marble tile in bathroom, chandelier in the bedroom. No TV so we got to enjoy each other. Definitely recommend.

I had a very pleasant stay. Parking was plentiful, my bed was comfortable, and Steve the front desk guy was extremely hospitable. Contrary to some earlier reviews, my room, as well as the bathroom, were very clean. The shower took a long time to warm up, but that is to be expected during the Minnesota winter. I will definitely stay here again next time I am in the Minneapolis area.

Location is great! Right next to Minneapolis Art Institute and right by Eat Street. The staff was great too! Especially Dan. He provided another traveler and I with a relaxed friendly open streets tour of Lyndale Ave. I also actually really appreciated the no alcohol policy because it made the hostel feel more like a home. Finally, the facility is great with comfortable beds, large rooms, and not overall crowded and nasty dirty travelers. Thanks for the service!

When I was reading some of the reviews on here I was a little put off- but I'm so glad that I went for it. The Minneapolis Institute for the Arts is directly across the street, and the other corner has a big, beautiful park to chill in. The people working at the hostel keep it clean and safe and are super friendly. It was a pretty sparse group of people rooming there, which is unfortunate because the kitchen is a great spot to enjoy tea, watch the news, make a meal or work on an art project. The house is beautiful as well! Just be sure when booking a room that you will arrive before 9pm - that's their check in deadline. It would be a bummer to miss out on a great place like this just because you missed check in!

Arrived after a long day of travelling to a clean and comfortable hostel. The service was great and the hostel-personnel went out of their way to provide for us - even amending the booking to suit our needs. They also were hugely helpful, answering our questions and printing out directions to different spots in Minneapolis. Definitely recommend this hostel to anyone out travelling on a budget.

Pleasant experience at the Minneapolis International Hostel. The kitchen is great! Nice granite counter-tops, two stove-ovens, one is electric, the other gas, two fridges, decent set of pots and pans, plenty of bar seating and a good table. If you want to cook a good meal, you got the room and tools to do it. I was unaware it was a dry hostel, so a bottle of wine I brought along went unopened (not a problem, just unexpected). My party had two private rooms with private baths (203 and 206), wonderfully decorated, excellent water pressure and temperature. Very comfortable bed, nice set of linens, curtains completely darkened outside light. I rolled a towel in front of my door to block the hall light, but that's a good hotel trick to do no matter how nice a place is. Floors are squeaky, but what do you expect from a 107 year old building. It's a beautiful building, ornately decorated.

Nice staff. I really like working with Harrison. Having a bed downstairs required tolerance of the upstairs movements. Liked having key to lower and room plus code for entry into the hostel. Relatively clean and fresh linen whenever needed. Within walking distance to some pretty nice restaurant and stores. Park across the street was safe, clean across from museum. Nice Shakespeare play in the park, too. How cool. Oh and washer dryer went all day and into night. If you are in a downstairs room, you will need to develop more tolerance.
